Blog: I have just bought a flat in a block which only has electric heating (ie no gas).
The flat is share of freehold and I am 1 of 17 joint freeholders.
I want to run a gas supply into the flat and put in gas central heating.
One of the old dears on the management committee survived being gased during the war and feels it would be to traumatic for her to have a gas supply coming into the building.
There is nothing in my lease to stop me going ahead, however the old dear has a lot of respect among the other freeholders.
Any ideas!!!!
(I know this story sounds crazy but it really is true)
Blog Reply: If she's paying the heating costs why bother? Just wait until she dies to put in the heating. Sounds harsh but could be win win. She doesn't want the gas & it will cost you a few thousand to install.
It all depends on why you want to fit the gch
Blog Reply: Sounds like a good reason not to install it, after all I feel it is important for us to be understanding and take into account tenants sensitivity to such matters. Especially when they are elderly as surely you will be old one day too - all being well!

Blog Reply: you are in business !
tell her to p**s of and install it anyway, your tenants comfort should come first.
if she dies put in a bid for her property.
Blog Reply: You have answered your own question. There is nothing to stop you by your own admission.
If other flat dwellers want GCH, then maybe you can achieve some economies of scale. When you have put in the GCH you can wave your smaller fuel bills under her nose. Haaar!
Demonstrate what a caring person you are by having a word with some of the others on the management committee. They will quickly see that you have concern for others, understand what comforts gch will bring to the occupants.
Then go ahead and do it anyway.
I respect what this lady may have gone through in the past, but it was a long time ago and we ahve to move with the times.
